7/24/2023 0 Comments Best ll bean bedding reddit![]() Yes, this is possible and helpful, and of course you can add to people's knowledge without "testing all 2 000 bedsheets on the market" as you stupidly request. I just did what you boasted to do but never did : give a third-party, fact-based analysis from a trusted source (The New York Times), using interviews of named experts in the field as well as real-world testing of bedsheets. You are hell-bent on splitting hair, not giving references apart from your own boneheaded opinion that there is black, white and nothing in-between, and insisting that somewhat your "opinion" could be interesting just because. In your specific experience, I would guess your fabric is made with mercerized cotton threads, which would physically alter the cotton cellulosic fibers in a way that would make the yarns less prone to fraying, and thus, pilling. I understand what you're trying to explain, because manufacturers do use the marketing buzzwords and gimmicks like "brushed for softness", "pre-washed for softness", and high thread counts you're referring to as selling points, but in this specific case, textile science disagrees. Especially in "brushed" cotton, they do not wear as well with larger threads in lower thread count fabrics. As a result the fabric is heavier and has a rougher finish. This results in larger areas of the thread being exposed to physical agitation through repeated use and washing. Lower thread count percale sheets are more prone to pilling, even in long-staple cotton (UNLESS the thread is mercerized before weaving) because the threads are larger in lower thread count fabric. I've never seen 600 thread count percale sheets, only sateen weave sheets. ![]() I've looked high and low for queen sets of the same brand and construction, but have been unable to find any. The only reason I don't have them anymore is because they were full-sized and I upgraded to a queen. They were around 350 thread count 100% cotton percale. I found some Hanes-branded sheet sets about 15 years ago at a discount 3rd-party retailer (think Marshall's, TJ Maxx, Burlington Coat Factory, etc) that were the best sheets I've ever had. They're hot, heavy, they pill easily, and as such do not retain their softness. The majority of ultra-high thread count sheet sets on the market are a different weave, called sateen, and are utter trash. If you can find percale sheets around 400-425 threads per inch, they will almost always be better quality and last longer. Percale sets max out somewhere between 450-500 threads per inch, but are most commonly found between 200-300. Sets with higher thread counts are thinner and lighter, in some cases stronger, are less prone to pilling, and in most instances are smoother and will sleep cooler, which promotes better sleep. When you're comparing 100% cotton percale bedsheets, IMHO thread count matters for the following reasons:Ī higher thread count percale weave bedsheet set will be better than sets with a lower thread count in almost all regards. I disagree with this redditor's opinion about thread count, but only as long as you're comparing apples to apples.
